Why Nuclear Energy is a Really Bad Idea
Some people consider Nuclear energy one of our most advanced discoveries for energy production. It would would be better to calls this our most backward and self destructive discovery for energy production. The average person is misinformed and kept ignorant about the true characteristics and dangers of nuclear energy. Let this article present an objective, simple and general overview of some of the most basic and important facts about nuclear energy. Then you can decide for yourself if we should be using this technology or spending our efforts and time better in other fields of research.
People really need to understand what "radiation" is and why "nuclear radiation" is dangerous, so lets explain radioactivity.
First, the word radiation applies to all electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, microwaves, ultraviolet waves, infrared waves, visible light, x-rays, and gamma rays. Of all these types of electromagnetic radiation, only the higher energy waves, like ultraviolet, x-rays and gamma rays are dangerous to humans, and of these only the gamma rays are associated with radioactivity. So not all radiation is a form of radioactivity. Visible light is radiation, which is vital to life. So when scientists talk about "nuclear radiation" realize they are talking about a very specific type of radiation, high energy gamma rays.
Most elements are fairly stable, however certain elements are unstable. In order for these unstable elements to become stable, they must loose energy. The unstable elements throw off this excess energy in two possible ways. By an electromagnetic gamma wave, or by small particles, called either Beta or Alpha particles. So there are technically only 3 kinds of radioactivity, gamma rays, beta particles, and alpha particles.
The gamma rays are electromagnetic waves, just like radio waves, visible light or x-rays, but are much more powerful and penetrating then even x-rays. Gamma rays can penetrate through large amounts of concrete or even lead. They are extremely powerful and dangerous. Gamma ray exposure can kill a human in a short period of time. This is the most dangerous form of nuclear radiation.
The Beta particles, are small particles like electrons, which are released by the unstable element. The Beta particles have far less energy than the gamma rays, and can only penetrate through a small amount of lead or concrete. The Beta particles can be shielded and do far less damage to human tissue.
The Alpha particles, are larger than the Beta particles, and are very low energy. A sheet of foil can stop most Alpha particles. This is the least harmful of the emissions from unstable elements. Modern smoke detectors actually contain a radioactive element which emits Alpha particles
Each unstable or radioactive element can emit different combinations and amounts of this "nuclear radiation". Each unstable element can only emit this nuclear radiation until the element becomes stable, and this take different amounts of time for different elements. Some radioactive elements will emit only the low energy alpha particles, for a few years, whereas as other radioactive elements can emit the higher energy gamma rays and beta rays, for TENS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS. It is these long lived, highly radioactive elements which are the most dangerous to human life.
Many of the waste byproducts created in the nuclear industry, fall into this latter category. The waste will remain deadly for thousands of years. For all our research and investment into nuclear energy, as of yet the solution for disposal of this "deadly, long lived, nuclear waste" is simply burial. So the average person needs to understand, from the front we see this incredibly advanced nuclear energy technology, and yet behind the scenes there is no technology to dispose of the waste. We use the most low tech solution available, burial. If we truly have mastered this energy source, we would not have this associated danger and problem with nuclear waste disposal. If we haven't developed the technology to safely dispose of the waste from our advanced technology, then the technology is simply not as advanced as we are led to believe.
When a nuclear power generating site is constructed and put into operation, we must realize and consider some very important problems. First, there will be a considerable amount of nuclear waste produced by every nuclear generator. There is no way to safely dispose of this waste. The waste will remain deadly for thousands of years. The waste in most modern nuclear generator installations is simply stored on site, in special holding pools. These holding pools will require maintenance and containment for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. People need to wake up and realize, by building these nuclear generators, we are creating a situation whereby ten's and even hundreds of GENERATIONS of people, will be effected by this project.
The short term power generated by a nuclear plant over its 20-50 year lifespan, cannot ever justify in any way the thousands of years of problems which result from such a process. The prevailing attitude by these nuclear power companies is too completely ignore the long term dangers, in favor of some short term profits. If these companies had to pay to clean up after themselves, Nuclear power would be the most expensive means of generating power ever conceived. So long as the waste disposal solution is burial or storage and they do not actually have to deal with the waste, then nuclear energy seems profitable. This is a naive and very dangerous attitude, which as I have pointed out will effect not just our current civilization, but generations of people for thousands of years. No one will use the site of any nuclear generating facility, for thousands if not tens of thousands of years, yet the power generation only occurs for a maximum of 50 years.
Any scientist not on the nuclear energy bandwagon, will tell you the dangers of nuclear radiation. Whenever one of these nuclear power plants has a problem, people die. We do not have any safe way to deal with a nuclear disaster. Every time one of these nuclear generators fails or has a problem, hundreds of people die trying to fix it. For example, in Chernoyble, when the meltdown occurred, local firefighters were sent to the scene to douse the fires, unaware of the radiation. Many died from exposure to radiation, just trying to put out a fire. We really have no safe way to deal with these emergencies. People are exposed to deadly levels of radiation just trying to save others, in every case of a nuclear emergency. We have no way to deal with a serious Nuclear emergency, other then sacrificing lives. This is a truth.
As one last argument, the reader should do some research on radiation sickness and radiation poisoning. If there is a list of the most horrible and painful ways to die, then radiation sickness would be right near the top of that list. Realize, if you eat or breath in radioactive particles, they remain in your body and will continue to cause damage from within. Why would we even consider using a technology which leads to one of the most horrible and painful ways to die. Is our world not dangerous enough, someone felt the need to introduce even further horrors and inhuman deaths upon the people. There is no cure, for radiation sickness. Again, we brag of our nuclear prowess, and when it comes to dealing with the simple medical issues and treatment of radiation sickness and exposures, we have NO technology. People need to be aware of this when thinking about nuclear energy. It seems these Nuclear Companies have absolutely no problem exposing generations of your children to one of the most horrible and painful deaths known, and are incapable of dealing with cleanup, safety and emergencies. Anyone supporting Nuclear power, is selfish, naive and in every sense of the words, just plain evil.
To anyone who disagrees with any of this, I suggest you take a long, slow walk through the lovely Hanford wastelands. Hows the cleanup going by the way? Only 9900 years to go, good job.
Fusion versus Fission
We can develop much safer alternatives to our current nuclear energy designs. Our society needs to invest money and research into fusion, instead of fission types of nuclear energy. Fusion processes involve combining atomic particles or subatomic particles, such as protons, neutrons and electrons into larger or more massive atoms or matter. Fission is the process of splitting atoms into smaller atoms or subatomic particles. Fusion is a much more natural, efficient and safe means of using nuclear energy. Some radical methods for safe fusion have already been proven to be workable, despite what the mainstream energy companies have been telling the public at large. Such fusion devices as the Farnsworth Fusor are workable, but such ideas just do not at present receive the credit and money required to really develop them to a sufficient degree to be put into widespread use. People have difficulty grasping the complex ideas of nuclear energy, either fusion or fission, and thus tend to believe whatever they are told. May these statements made here inspire those with the intelligence and desire for new forms of energy, to consider these remarkable fusion devices as the solution to many of our energy problems today. Fission devices have been funded solely because they are similar technologies as those required to build nuclear weapons. We need to divert from this destructive path and learn new safer ways to power our civilization.

Many methods are in use to presently generate power for work in our society. Due to the environmental issues of many of our present methods the natural environment has radically changed as the demand for energy has grown with the population. There is a concern and need in our society, and I feel a strong desire, to discover new more ecologically friendly methods to sustain a civilization. However these new ideas will necessarily require a strong desire on the part of many people to change our present ideas of power consumption and its role in our society. This article merely seeks to introduce two new and previously unutilized methods for obtaining useable power with little or no environmental impact.
The first idea can be quickly revealed by asking a very revealing question. "Which substance is primarily applied for the energy needs of human kind, fire or water?" At first glance the immediate answer would be for most, "fire." The reason for this is simple. Nearly every source of energy and technology at present relies upon the principles and application of fire. We use internal combustion in our automobiles, flammables in our rockets and jets, firewood, gas, oil, or coal to heat and power our homes, even nuclear power can be thought of as nuclear fire. Water, however, can easily be shown to be much more vital to life and more importantly a much greater source of energy.
Water is life! We need it to live; it makes up most of our own bodies; it is considered the cradle of life on our planet. Fire is an ancient discovery of man; fire is a tool which we use to improve life ( technao ) which over time has even led to our present industrial technology. The problem here being addressed is more of a decision between whether water or fire has more potential and benefit to our society as a source of energy. However, on one hand an individual can see the application of fire as technology, on the other there appear to be no forms of water based technology with which to make a real comparison. The existence of a limitless water based technology is in fact likely one of the greatest secrets of all time.
The Secret of Energy from Water
When we use natural resources on our planet, we consume them, usually in some incendiary manner. These resources may be renewable or non renewable and may potentially damage the civilization utilizing them. Once again, a relatively simple question can be asked about the energy we consume to power our way of life. For example; when you burn a log in the fire for heat, "Where is the heat energy coming from?" The technical explanation is energy is released from the chemical bonds of a combustible gas or oil when the wood is heated in a chain reaction. A single log represents the release of a large amount of energy, as heat or fire, in a short period of time.
However, what our civilization needs to realize is that there is another energy process involved in the Universe. In the previous example the energy we can release from the log was initially stored in the log by the tree. The resultant brief burst of heat in combustion represents a lengthy period of growth and energy storage in those chemical bonds on the part of the living tree. The disordered release of heat in combustion has come from an ordered formation of energy by the growth processes of the tree. Using only these formatative mechanisms of growth and a balanced harmonic interaction with its environment trees manage to store a large quantity of what we could call fuel energy from their environment. It is only by completely understanding this uplifting,formative,constructive,amplifying potential in the universe, that we will finally realize how much energy is really available for our purposes. Only by understanding, not how to release energy already contained, but how energy is contained or formed into mass is freedom from energy gained.
The true mechanism of molecular bonding, atomic bonding, and even atomic formation, is completely dependent upon how energy is being contained or stored by the very atoms themselves. It is entirely feasible these mechanisms of atomic energy storage would reflect themselves in the resultant macroscopic behavior of the molecules created and possibly even in other natural behaviors as well. What is being here described is the concept of the atoms, molecules and resulting combinations behaving in ways governed by the very behaviors which formed them all originally. This concept has very unique repercussions when applied specifically to the water molecule, which we are already so intimately associated.
True water power is only one method of developing a new ecologically friendly power source for a civilization. Another powerful ecologically friendly source of power in the Universe requires some further explanation.
